Ann Reinking was a major muse to Bob Fosse in the 1970s, and here she recreates a dance she first performed on Broadway in Fosse’s Dancin’. Her relationship to Jacob’s Pillow began when she taught for the Jazz Project in 1983, continuing through numerous teaching engagements and membership on the Board of Directors into the early 1990s. Gary Chryst also performed in the Broadway company of Dancin’, but he and Reinking had met years before when he was a member of the Joffrey Ballet and she was an apprentice. Chryst first performed at the Pillow in the late 1960s, and later appeared here with Martine Van Hamel, Nederlands Dans Theater III, David Parsons, and others. Bob Fosse (1927-1987) was a director-choreographer of legendary status, who remains the only creative artist to win an Oscar, and Emmy, and a Tony in the same year.
