Under the direction of Tom Mossbrucker and Jean-Philippe Malaty, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet made its Pillow debut in 2003 and returned in five different seasons before its final performances in 2020. The company’s eclectic repertory for these visits included works by Twyla Tharp, William Forsythe, Gerald Arpino, Itzik Galili, and Nicolo Fonte. Initially based solely in Aspen, Colorado, the company added a second home base in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2000. Stamping Ground is Jiří Kylián’s exploration of Aboriginal culture and dance, seeking the universal qualities that link age-old cultures with contemporary ballet.
