Carola Goya was born in New York in 1906 and made her debut as a Spanish dancer in 1927. She danced at the White House for the Roosevelts in 1936 and joined José Greco’s company as a leading dancer when it was formed in 1947. Matteo Vittucci was born in 1919 in Utica, New York, and spent the summer of 1951 at Jacob’s Pillow, where he studied with La Meri. The successful partnership of Carola Goya and Matteo began in 1954 and included many television appearances and Pillow engagements. Goya and Matteo were married in 1974 and she died in 1994. Matteo, a longtime faculty member of New York’s High School of Performing Arts, died at 92 in 2011.
