Founded in 2003, Cedar Lake specializes in acquiring and commissioning new works by emerging choreographers from throughout the world. Under the artistic direction of Benoit-Swan Pouffer, the New York-based company offers a wide-ranging spectrum of both American and international choreography. The full evening Orbo Novo ("New World" in Latin) was inspired by Jill Bolte Taylor's My Stroke of Insight about the experience of having a stroke. Half-Moroccan, half-Flemish choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui created this work especially for Cedar Lake, and the production seen here was its world premiere.
