Compañía Nacional de Danza 2 (CND2)
Nacho Duato became the artistic director of Spain's Compañía Nacional de Danza in 1990 after a prolific career as a dancer, and he founded CND2 in 1999 with the aim of training and preparing dancers for the rigors of the main company. In 2010, Duato left CND and CND2 in order to head St. Petersburg's Mikhailovsky Ballet. During his tenure, dancers were given a limited tenure of two years with CND2, after which they either moved to the main troupe or sought work with other companies. Much of the repertory performed by CND2 was choreographed by Duato, although he also offered important opportunities for emerging choreographers to make new work. After making its U.S. debut at Jacob's Pillow in 2003, the company returned the very next season and again in 2006, finally making its very last U.S. appearance under Duato's direction here in 2010.
