Jane Comfort and Company
Since the 1970s, Jane Comfort and Company has presented multidisciplinary dance/theater works widely throughout the U.S. and internationally. Comfort is a choreographer, writer, and director who has worked in theater, opera, and on Broadway (Stephen Sondheim's Passion and Michel Legrand's Amour). Her musical collaborators have included DJs, percussionists, composers, and vocalists. The Bessie Award-winning Underground River was commissioned by Jacob's Pillow and partly created onsite, with composer Toshi Reagon building a score that parallels Comfort's words and movement. In the excerpt seen here, the central unnamed figure was devised by puppeteer Basil Twist.
