Ralph Lemon is a choreographer, conceptualist, director, writer, and installation artist who has pushed the boundaries of dance. In recent years his work may be experienced as often in museums as on the dance stage, with an especially high-profile presence at New York’s Museum of Modern Art beginning in 2011. As Artistic Director of Cross Performance, a company dedicated to cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary explorations, Lemon builds teams of collaborating artists from diverse cultures. His relationship with Jacob’s Pillow began in 1986, and he has since been involved as a performer, choreographer, resident artist, and faculty member. This Solo springs from an interview with LaVaughn Robinson, an acclaimed tap dancer whose career began on the streets of Philadelphia in the 1930s.
