Leading dancers with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the 1980s and 90s, Sarita Allen and Stephen Smith also both served on the faculty of The School at Jacob’s Pillow. Allen was Judith Jamison’s assistant in The Jamison Project, the company that first performed Tease in 1988. The Jamison Project was a well-received but short-lived undertaking (administered and nurtured by the Pillow), as Jamison was invited to take over the Ailey company in 1989. It was also under the auspices of The Jamison Project that Garth Fagan was commissioned to create the final solo performed by Jamison herself.
