Originally created for Ashley Bouder and Taylor Stanley of the Ashley Bouder Project, this ten-minute duet was extended for Ballet Austin. The company has been in operation since 1956, and since 2000 has been under the direction of Stephen Mills, who has both taught and choreographed for The School at Jacob’s Pillow. This performance of Symbiotic Twin was programmed in tribute to choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, who accepted the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award immediately after this presentation. Ochoa’s works have been performed at the Pillow by Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ballet Hispanico, Daniil Simkin, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, and others, and she has co-directed the Contemporary Program in The School at Jacob’s Pillow.
