Founded by Tina Ramirez in 1970, the New York-based Ballet Hispánico explores, preserves, and expands the passion and theatricality of Latino dance through the work of its company, school, and arts education programs. The intention is to deconstruct gender roles and revitalize an authentic perspective of Puerto Rican icons. Lopez Ochoa (who also created Linea Recta for Ballet Hispánico) is the subject of an extensive online essay by Maura Keefe with additional video excerpts from her works.
