Zvi Gotheiner was born and raised in a kibbutz in northern Israel and began his career as a talented violinist. He came to American on a dance scholarship in 1978 and performed with the Joyce Trisler Danscompany and Feld Ballets/NY before returning to Israel to dance with Batsheva. He formed his own New York-based company in 1989, and has pursued parallel careers as a teacher, choreographer, and company director. After Gotheiner’s work was first performed at the Pillow by RhythMEK in 2000, the performance seen here marked his own company’s Pillow debut. Lapse was originally commissioned by Repertory Dance Theater of Utah, and ZviDance began performing it in 2004. The company returned in 2016 to present the evening-length Escher/Bacon/Rothko.
