Dedicated to the great American traditions of tap dancing and jazz music, Jazz Tap Ensemble was founded by Lynn Dally in 1979 and made its Pillow debut in 1983. This represents their second Pillow appearance, followed by a final engagement in 1998. Recognized for their excellence as performers and master teachers, JTE always looked to its elders for inspiration, working with well-known tap masters including Jimmy Slyde, Harold Nicholas, LaVaughn Robinson, Savion Glover, and Gregory Hines. The work seen here was created for a U.S. State Department tour of Central America, honoring tap’s Latin connection.
