Born in Madras and now based in London, Shobana Jeyasingh has directed her company since 1989, creating dozens of critically acclaimed works for stage, screen, and diverse sites ranging from Palladian monasteries in Venice to contemporary fountains in London. Her work has toured extensively, and she has also created works for other dance and theater companies including London’s National Theatre. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards and, in 2020, she was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE). Maker of Maps is concerned with journeys and journeying, a voyage of discovery. It’s a personal map of an Indian dancer living in Great Britain.
