Although it was founded in 2006 with the intent of showcasing Christopher Wheeldon’s choreography, Morphoses underwent its own metamorphosis when Wheeldon left the company in 2010. Co-founder and director Lourdes Lopez shifted the company’s mission to focus on the work of one distinctive choreographer each year, a practice which launched in 2011 with Luca Veggetti. For the 2012 season, Morphoses collaborated with Swedish dancer/choreographer/filmmaker Pontus Lidberg to create the work seen here in its world premiere engagement. Lidberg had previously created an award-winning film known as Labyrinth Within, and he then produced a live counterpart to the film using similar elements such as the music of David Lang.
