Born in Boston in 1953, Joyce Cuoco danced as a child with Boston Ballet and first appeared on national television at the age of twelve (on the Danny Kaye Show, choreographed by former Pillow student Tony Charmoli). As a “baby ballerina,” she was a star attraction at Radio City Music Hall and on TV’s Ed Sullivan Show, perfecting some of the virtuoso technique she displays in this video. She made her Pillow debut in 1970 and later became a soloist with John Cranko’s Stuttgart Ballet. She made several memorable Pillow appearances in the late 1970s and early 80s, mostly with partner Youri Vamos, culminating in this spectacular final appearance with John Wey Ling, a Shanghai Ballet principal who defected to the U.S. and joined ABT.
