Although the company was established in France, both founders hail from Burkina Faso. Salia Sanou started out studying drama and African dance there, while Seydou Boro launched his professional career in both theater and film. They met as dancers in Mathilde Monnier’s company based in Montpellier, and the work seen here was one of their first collaborations. While it draws upon their African roots, they intend their work to be viewed in a contemporary vein. In 2006, they co-founded the Choreographic Development Centre in Burkina Faso’s capital city of Ouagadougou. The Centre, known as La Termitière, collaborates with many other schools and companies (such as Senegal’s Janti-Bi), while the company suspended its own performances in 2010.
