Both Kota Yamazaki and Mina Nishimura were born in Japan and both are now on the faculty at Bennington College. From 1995 to 2001, Yamazaki led a Tokyo-based company known as Rosy Co, which performed Chinoise Flower at the Pillow in 2000. Nishimura has performed with a wide range of dance artists in New York City, and her own works have been commissioned by a number of New York venues. Together they have participated in two residencies at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) where this work was developed. They describe the dance as “an intimate and quiet duet that re-imagines an abandoned, forgotten, aging, or marginalized body while deepening and rigorously pursuing a weather-like, inner energy-based movement practice.“
