As a company of BIPOC women and femme dancers led by choreographer Ananya Chatterjea, Ananya Dance Theatre presents original contemporary dance theater at the intersection of artistic excellence and social justice. Based in St. Paul, Minnesota since its founding in 2005, the company has toured throughout the U.S. as well as to festivals in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Palestine, Trinidad, and Zimbabwe. Nün Gherāo, a historical and political work developed in a Pillow Lab residency, was inspired by the 1978-79 massacre on Morichjhapi Island in West Bengal, exploring betrayal, dispossession, and exile.
