Kyle Marshall founded his New York City-based contemporary dance company in 2014 to highlight the dancing body as a container of history, an igniter of social reform, and a site of celebration. Expressing “a choreographic voice like no one else’s” (The New York Times), Kyle Marshall Choreography believes in the creation, sharing, and teaching of dance as a way to deepen our knowledge of who we are as individuals and as societies. King is a powerful solo for Marshall that uses Martin Luther King Jr.’s final speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” as a soundscore. The work admires how ideas, words, and actions can instigate revolution while simultaneously acknowledging the struggle of one body in order to create a better future.
