Now based in Melbourne, Lucy Guerin was born in Adelaide, Australia. She moved to New York City in 1989 and danced there for seven years with the companies of Tere O’Connor, Bebe Miller, and Sara Rudner. After returning to Australia, she formed her own company in 2002, and has since toured her dances throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. She also creates works on other companies, including Mikhail Baryshnikov‘s White Oak Dance Project, Dance Works Rotterdam, and Australia’s Chunky Move. Her award-winning Structure and Sadness was inspired by the West Gate Bridge collapse, a tragic event in Melbourne which claimed the lives of 35 men in 1970.
