Among today’s most celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer/choreographers, Mythili Prakash made her solo debut in India at the age of eight and has since performed and toured worldwide. Initially trained by her mother, Viji Prakash, she has been mentored by Malavika Sarukkai and Akram Khan, and she continues to perform as a principal dancer in Khan’s company. Beyond the concert stage, she served as Ang Lee’s choreography assistant on his film, Life of Pi, in which she played the role of Pi’s wife. She made her Pillow debut in 2022 with the premiere of a commissioned work entitled AR | DHA. The work seen here was also a Pillow commission, created in part during a Pillow Lab residency. She’s Auspicious blurs the line between Goddess and Woman, exploring the dichotomy between celebration of the Goddess versus the treatment of women in society.
