Under the direction of Tom Mossbrucker and Jean-Philippe Malaty, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet made its Pillow debut in 2003 and returned in five different seasons before its final performances in 2020. The company’s eclectic repertory for these visits included works by Twyla Tharp, William Forsythe, Gerald Arpino, Alejandro Cerrudo, Nicolo Fonte, and Jiří Kylián. Initially based solely in Aspen, Colorado, the company added a second home base six hours away in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2000. In addition to these two homes, Mossbrucker claims, “We’re deeply attached to the Pillow, part of our spiritual roots.” Chameleon was the first work acquired by the company from Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili, who premiered it in the Netherlands ten years earlier.
