Under the leadership of Artistic Director Marcello Angelini since 1995, Tulsa Ballet was founded by Ballet Russe veterans Roman Jasinski and Moscelyne Larkin in 1956. The company aims to preserve the classical repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries while presenting works by contemporary choreographers of our time. Commissioned to honor the company’s 65th anniversary, Celestial Bodies was choreographed by Andrew McNicol, a freelance British choreographer who serves as Artistic Associate of the English National Ballet School. When this ballet premiered in 2022, one critic noted that it “melds classical precision with an otherworldly grace.”
