This powerful site-specific work was created by choreographer Joanna Haigood during several Pillow residencies, inspired by the Pillow site’s history as a stop on the Underground Railroad for enslaved people escaping to freedom. Haigood is a California-based artist whose works often involve in-depth research into the background and character of historic sites. Her collaborators on Invisible Wings included composer/arranger Linda Tillery and composer/sound designer Lauren Weinger. Storyteller Diane Ferlatte set the scene for the audience’s experience, recorded here in a documentary about the original production, which was revived for the Pillow’s 75th anniversary season in 2007.
