Born in Indonesia, Beppie Blankert started her career in 1969 with the Noord Nederlandse Dansgroep before training in New York with Merce Cunningham and Louis Falco. She joined the Amsterdam women’s collective known as Dansproduktie in 1981 and founded her own company, Dansers Studio, in 1988. Her work often blends dance, music, and literary texts, and a frequent collaborator has been Louis Andriessen, with whom she co-directed The School at Jacob’s Pillow’s Composer-Choreographer Lab in 2001. Their collaboration on Dubbelspoor began in 1986, and the work was remade for the dancers seen here in 1999. Utilizing Samuel Beckett’s “Text for Nothing #7,” the performance is about waiting, and the scene is played out in an abandoned railway station where trains pass but never stop.
