M.A.D.D. stands for “Making a Difference Dancing,” and M.A.D.D. Rhythms has been doing just that since 2001. The company’s creator/director/choreographer is Donnetta “LilBit” Jackson, who was just 11 when she became one of the group’s original members. The current dancers range in age from teenagers to mid-40s, and they are united in their mission to preserve, promote and contribute to the art form called tap. They teach its history, represent its culture, and advocate for its future. Based in Chicago, M.A.D.D. Rhythms presented a program here that showcased African Diasporic lineage and the rhythmic connections of tap, Chicago footwork, and African dance.
