Co-founded by Keith Nelson and Sephanie Monseu, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus presented their first performance in Brooklyn in 1995. Since then, more than a thousand artists have worked with the company, including musicians, comedians, actors, clowns, dancers, novelty acts, circus performers, and sideshow acts. Boston-based Joel Herzfeld has performed around the world, including a tour with the 2015 Broadway revival of Pippin. The hoop that Herzfeld performs with here is known as a cyr wheel, and it’s reminiscent of the hoops that were used by early modern dancers like Doris Humphrey.
