Roy Assaf was born in 1982 in the rural farming community of Sde Moshe in southern Israel. With no formal dance training, Assaf has been creating and performing as long as he can remember. He started working with Emanuel Gat in 2003 and toured with the company to Jacob’s Pillow in 2006, becoming Gat’s assistant before leaving the group three years later. Since 2010, he has been developing his own works independently. Recognized with several prominent choreographic prizes, The Hill takes its name and inspiration from one of the fiercest battles of the Six-Day War in 1967. The performance excerpted here marked the company’s U.S. debut.
