Based in Seattle since its founding in 1990, The Pat Graney Company continues to tour both nationally and internationally, performing the work of its imaginative and dedicated founder who has been making dances since 1981. Her visual inspirations for the work seen here were the religions paintings of Carvaggio, the animation work of Zbigniew Rybczynski, contemporary women’s fashion, and Michelangelo’s paintings for the Sistine Chapel. Faith has been described as “an hourlong immersion in the feminine psyche,” and eventually became part of a triptych of works that also encompassed Sleep (1995) and Tattoo (2001).
