Since its inception in 1978, this New York City-based multicultural company has received critical acclaim for its national and international tours, extended residencies in communities throughout the U.S., New York performances, and award-winning educational programming. Founded by H.T. Chen (1947-2022) and now under the direction of Dian Dong, H.T. Chen & Dancers has created a uniquely Asian-American expression by embodying its cultural heritage. Chen, whose background was in both Chinese and Western dance and theater, received degrees from the University of Chinese Culture in Taiwan, The Juilliard School, and New York University. His Mott Street drew its title from Chinatown’s main thoroughfare, depicting the spirit and rhythm of America’s melting pot.
