Two years in the making, the presentation collectively known as the Russian Village Festival was comprised of six different folklore companies from across Russia. Rostov-on-Don, home to the group seen here, is a large port city in southeastern Russia, historically known for its connections to famous authors such as Chekhov, Pushkin, and Gorky. This group of young Cossack musicologists is dedicated to recreating and preserving the traditional songs and dances of the region, traveling into the countryside to learn songs and dances from the villagers and constructing their own costumes.
