Widely considered to be the pre-eminent Isadora Duncan group performing today, this company is breathing new life into Duncan’s solos and group works through performances and educational programming. The company’s founder and artistic director, Lori Belilove, was coached by two of Duncan’s adopted daughters (known as the Isadorables), Irma Duncan and Anna Duncan, and she studied with important second-generation figures including Julia Levien, Hortense Kooluris, and Mignon Garland. The New York City Ballet’s Sara Mearns first worked with Belilove in 2017, and has since presented memorable performances of Duncan solos at Lincoln Center and City Center. The same Brahms waltz heard here was later interpreted by Ruth St. Denis.
