Choreographer Jaime Camarena founded A Poc A Poc Danza in Barcelona in 1994, and moved the company to his native Mexico City five years later. The company’s name translates as “little by little” or “step by step” and this is indicative of the incremental way it has grown from a project-based group of dancers to the established institution of today. The solo seen here was one of four works presented by the company in this U.S. debut engagement. Dancer Carolina Patiño returned to Jacob’s Pillow the following year in two U.S. premieres by Tania Pérez-Salas.
