Abby Zbikowski created her company in 2012 to experiment with the potential and possibility of the body being pushed beyond its perceived limits. She has worked to shift the mindset away from creating product, instead repositioning dance as a vehicle for transformation and welcoming failure as an inevitable stop on the path to growth. Her abandoned playground grew out of a two-and-a-half-year period of obsessive and tedious practice, exploring the layered meanings of play. After premiering the work at the Abrons Arts Center, Abby Z was honored with the 2017 Juried Bessie Award for choreography.
