Described as a “delirious anti-narrative of American emptiness, violence, and nonsense,” Americana Psychobabble is the creation of absurdist performer Alex Tatarsky, whose works explore the territory between dance, comedy, and performance art. Tatarsky was born and raised in New York City, and performs on stages, in galleries, museums, bars, and living rooms. At Jacob’s Pillow, this solo was presented as part of a program entitled America(na) to Me, with a cornucopia of artists addressing the question, “What is American dance?”—each in their own way. The New York Times referred to Tatarsky’s work as “a slip-of-the-tongue descent into the American id.”
