Since its inception in 1987, the company has toured extensively throughout the world, sharing the music, movement and spectacle of its vibrant and living culture. Traditional dances from many regions are featured, including ceremonial and seasonal dances. The company was under the direction of Hanay Geiogamah and Barbara Schwei during its three Pillow appearances in 1989, 1995, and 1998. Two telecasts on the PBS Great Performances series brought the company wide exposure and an Emmy nomination. In the Algonquin language, Kotuwokan means “come celebrate the dance.”
