With her husband and creative partner Paul Lazar, Annie-B Parson is the recipient of the first Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award, and they have both worked extensively at the Pillow. Parson wrote this program note to accompany her commissioned work for the opening of the new Doris Duke Theatre: “The Doris Duke Theatre is a haven for improbable dances nurtured by a rare ethos that in the middle of a forest, in a clearing, artists must come together to communicate through their body what is new, what is alive, and what matters. The history vibrating around each dance, the particular expectation the audience has here and only here, the very air itself—that is the Duke. Being asked to create a celebratory gathering dance of Jacob’s Pillow choreographers moved me to find a structure that simply shows who we are and what we love.”
