Seen here in its Pillow debut, Ballet Hispánico was founded in 1970 by Tina Ramirez. This New York-based institution aims to explore, preserve, and expand the passion and theatricality of Latino dance through the work of its company, school, and arts education programs. Under the direction of former company member and Luna Negra founder Eduardo Vilaro since 2009, Ballet Hispánico continues its mission to present a diverse repertory by renowned choreographers from around the world, including Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Gustavo Ramírez Sansano. Geoffrey Holder’s Danse Creole was inspired by the style and rhythms of Trinidadian dance.
