Founded by Tina Ramirez in 1970, the New York-based Ballet Hispanico explores, preserves, and expands the passion and theatricality of Latino dance through the work of its company, school, and arts education programs. Under the direction of former company member and Luna Negra founder Eduardo Vilaro since 2009, Ballet Hispanico continues its mission to present a diverse repertory by renowned choreographers from around the world, including Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Gustavo Ramírez Sansano. Tito on Timbales choreographer William Whitener danced on Broadway and in the companies of Robert Joffrey and Twyla Tharp before serving as artistic director of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Kansas City Ballet. Tito on Timbales is the kind of smooth mix of influences for which Ballet Hispanico seems to stand.”
