Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ben Munisteri studied classical piano as a child and started dancing in his teens, becoming a founding member of the Doug Elkins Dance Company in 1987. His early dances were presented at many New York theaters, nightclubs, and outdoor venues, demonstrating his love for modern and ballet traditions as well as a deep affection for club dance. He established Ben Munisteri Dance Projects in 1994 and the company toured widely in the U.S. and Europe. He is now on the faculty of Michigan’s Alma College. Not Human was created to a collage of different music and animals sounds, and has been characterized as “playful, daring, accessible, and friendly.”
