Brian Brooks founded the Brian Brooks Moving Company in 2002, since producing works for live performance and film that “shatter conventional notions of the human capacity for strength and endurance,” as described in Dance Magazine. Brooks began dancing as a teenager in Hingham, Massachusetts, moving to New York City in 1994. There he performed for three years with Elizabeth Streb before forming his own company, which first performed at the Pillow as part of the 2003 Inside/Out series and returned with Motor and other works in 2013. That same year, he choreographed and performed a duet with Wendy Whelan as part of her Restless Creature project, and they reunited for the full-evening Some of a Thousand Words in 2016. The work seen here is a world premiere, presented during the same season when Brooks experimented with a Virtual Reality event called Viewpoint.
