This work was inspired by the real-life families who immigrated as laborers from Mexico and became California wine makers. New York City-based Calpulli Mexican Dance Company presents works featuring dance and music traditions, lesser-known stories from across Mexico, and original dances capturing the Mexican-American spirit. Founded in 2003 and now under the artistic direction of Grisel Pren Monje, the company has performed at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Carnegie Hall, and various venues across the U.S. and internationally. They made their Jacob’s Pillow debut with Sones Jalicienses in 2016.
