Charles Moulton was born in Minneapolis and made his professional debut with Contemporary Dancers of Winnipeg, later establishing a wider reputation as a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from 1973 to 1976. Moulton established his own company in 1978, and is perhaps best known for his Precision Ball Passing, regarded as a landmark in the development of post-modern dance. Originally created for three performers in 1979, it has been restaged in alternate versions for casts of nine, 18, 25, 48, and 60 performers, and was the forerunner of the work seen here. Moulton remains active as a choreographer and visual artist based in Oakland, California.
