Created in 1978 to support the creation of contemporary choreography, the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine (CNDC) is based in Angers, France. Since 2013, CNDC has been under the direction of Robert Swinston, whose 31 years with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company made him one of the world’s foremost teachers and stagers of Cunningham’s repertoire. Swinston’s Pillow connections began in 1971 when he was a scholarship student in the final season of founder Ted Shawn’s tenure. He won a Bessie Award in 2003 for a previous reconstruction of How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run. Presented at the Pillow on a program with Inlets 2 and Suite for Five, these performances were part of the worldwide Merce Cunningham Centennial celebration.
