Destined for greatness, Cynthia Gregory first graced the cover of Dance Magazine in 1953, when she was only seven years old. She joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1961, and became a longtime star of American Ballet Theatre beginning in 1965. There she danced all the classics and created roles in works by Eliot Feld, Alvin Ailey, and Twyla Tharp. After having made her Pillow debut in 1973, she was selected to help pay tribute to the Pillow’s fiftieth anniversary by reviving two classic Ruth St. Denis works, the one seen here and its companion piece, Liebestraum. Cynthia Gregory retired from the stage in 1991, but continues her connection to the dance community as Chairman Emeritus of Career Transitions for Dancers.
