Ladies of Hip-Hop Dance Collective is an all-female intergenerational dance company that creates dance works illuminating the presence and power of women in hip-hop. Their movement includes freestyle, ciphering, party dances, and call-and-response, representing the essence of street and club dance culture while exploring both community and proscenium performance. Founded by Michele Byrd McPhee, Ladies of Hip-Hop creates collaborative works that celebrate feminist narratives and the intersections of gender, race, and resistance. They presented The Black Dancing Bodies Project in 2022, and are seen here in a world premiere inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s Parable Series, made possible by a Joan B. Hunter New Work Commission.
