Based in Brisbane, Australia, Circa has toured to 22 countries since its founding in 2006. The company’s repertory combines contemporary circus with acrobatic dance and multi-media elements. As in the company’s 2012 presentation of the eponymous Circa, S utilizes little or no set, characters, story line, or theme, and the entire production is on an intensely human scale. Only the barest of costumes are employed, along with basic lights and circus equipment. The company’s artistic director, Yaron Lifschitz, trained as a director and has worked in opera, theater, and physical theater, while the performers have experience in gymnastics, acrobatics, break dancing, synchronized swimming, and modern dance.
