A principal dancer with New York City Ballet since 2007, Daniel Ulbricht founded Stars of American Ballet to present high caliber performances as well as educational and outreach programs. His company made its Pillow debut with a cornucopia of ballets by Benjamin Millepied, Justin Peck, Christopher Wheeldon, Emery LeCrone, and Larry Keigwin, capped by the Jerome Robbins classic, Fancy Free. This performance, featuring Oliver Smith’s iconic set design and several prominent members of New York City Ballet, was the first Robbins ballet to be seen at the Pillow since 1949 when the same work was presented by Ballet Theatre (including original cast member John Kriza). The original production of Fancy Free was such a hit that the same creative team developed it into a full-fledged Broadway musical, On the Town. Ulbricht’s company has returned twice to the Pillow since this first engagement, presenting a range of works including Justin Peck’s Distractions and Jerome Robbins’s Interplay.
