In 2011, David Hallberg became the first foreigner to join the Bolshoi Ballet as a principal dancer, making front page news in The New York Times and around the world. He attained the rank of principal with American Ballet Theatre in 2005, four years after having joined ABT’s corps de ballet. Acclaimed as one of today’s finest classical dancers, Hallberg was born in Rapid City, South Dakota and began formal dance training at the age of thirteen. In addition to his two home companies, he has performed as a guest artist with the Mariinsky Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, and other prestigious companies. Originally choreographed 20 years earlier, this solo was reworked especially for Hallberg by choreographer Nacho Duato, the founder and former director of CND2.
