Since 1988, choreographer/writer/director David Roussève has created more than a dozen full-evening works for the company known as REALITY, including three commissions from the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival. He tackles grand themes, confronting race, sexuality, and gender in powerful and provocative ways, while also working to charm his audiences through humor and accessible storytelling. He refers to Stardust as a coming of age story for the Twitter generation, focusing on an African American gay urban teenager who only appears onstage through projected text messages. The company returned to the Pillow in 2019 with Halfway to Dawn, a work inspired by the life and music of Billy Strayhorn.
